Help ACS Sacramento Plan for 2016

The Executive Committee of our section has just submitted its 2015 annual report summarizing our activities from last year. We are happy to say that each year over the past few years, the number of activities sponsored by our section and the number of activities coordinated by our section have increased.

We have an awards subcommittee formed in 2015 that coordinates the student travel award and our new high school teacher award. We held our first tri-section event in coordination with the Santa Clara and California sections of the ACS, The Flavors of Chemistry. We already have plans for our first section-wide student chapter meeting coming up in 2016. We’ve been active in encouraging teachers to join the American Association of Chemistry Teachers (AACT). And we’ve got some pretty neat stuff: a new logo and web site, pins, t-shirts, and fun give-a-ways at some of our events.

At the same time, we continue to sponsor events such as the High School Chemistry Olympiad (register by February 12, 2016), exam on March 12, the Miller Symposium (April 7-8, 2016), and the UoP Section Meeting and BBQ (April 30, 2016). We continue to promote science and environmental literacy through Earth Day and National Chemistry Week events. We continue to send our Executive Committee members to the ACS Leadership Institute.

With that, the entire executive board would like to invite you to our next executive committee meeting on March 4th at 7pm. At our next Executive Committee meeting, we will be planning out activities for the rest of 2016. Please join us! The meeting address is:

SCC Davis Center
1720 Jade Place
Davis, CA 95616

There is an optional dinner beforehand at 6pm at Banzai Japanese Kitchen, which is just across the street from the SCC Davis Center. Email Bill Miller or Cindy Castronovo for more information or if you plan on attending.
