The First Virtual Flavors of Chemistry Was a Success

On October 8th the Sacramento ACS section virtually hosted its annual Flavors of Chemistry event. This is the time when we acknowledge our longest-participating members and this year David Marten, Ken Warburton, and George Zweifel all received special recognition.

The guest speaker of the main presentation was Philipp Zerbe, an associate professor in the department of Plant Biology at the University of California at Davis. Professor Zerbe’s talk focused on terpenes in maize, their role in protecting the plant from pathogens, and his lab’s efforts in pinpointing the genes that are responsible for the production of said terpenes. The audience got treated to a rich Q&A session after the seminar and those who attended found Professor Zerbe’s work interesting and inspiring.
