The SCC Chem Club welcomed in the spring semester with newly-elected President Jasmine Hakim-Elahi and a fun, messy, explosive experiment with Mentos and different kinds of soda. During the meeting, an outreach to Davinci Junior High on February 26th was organized, as well as a potential field trip to the Miller Symposium with the Honors Chemistry class and CRC Chem Club on March 5th and 6th. Buttons and new t-shirt designs are being explored, and the SCC Chemistry Club plans to expand interest in the club this semester by creating a new display in Lillard Hall display case.

A recap of the last semester: SCC Chem Club successfully made a water filter, presented on Club Day, complete with water tasting demos. The club also celebrated Halloween with the elephant toothpaste experiment, as well as finishing off the semester with the infamous gummy bear reaction with potassium chloride and sulfuric acid, along with other different candies as test subjects.

Plans for this semester include potential trips to Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Exploratorium, and a local brewery, and activities like screen press, cookie experiments, glass etching, and soap making.
