On September 25th the Sacramento ACS section hosted its annual Flavors of Chemistry event. This is the time when we acknowledge our longest-participating members and this year Dr. Roy Whiteker, Dr. Willy Kollmeyer, Dr. William Jackson, Karl Bucholz, and Dr. Bruce Boss all received special recognition.
The guest speaker of the main presentation was Dr. Sean LaFond, Director of Flavor for Verofolia, located in Healdsburg, CA, and scientific consultant for Edible Odyssey in Davis, CA. Dr. LaFond’s talk focused on how he approaches the creation of novel flavors for his customers, and some of the common issues that arise when working in the flavor chemistry field. The audience was treated to a rich Q&A session after the seminar and those who attended found Dr. LaFond’s work interesting and inspiring.
