Spring Update for UC Davis Chemistry Club

fireballBy Ben Wigman

The Chemistry Club at UC Davis has been busy preparing for one of its biggest events of the year, Picnic Day! This year the Educational Outreach committee and the Chemistry Club combined had nearly 50 volunteers help put together our “It’s not Magic it’s Chemistry” shows and a variety of hands-on demonstrations. In total it’s estimated that over 2,000 people attended the shows or were able to stop by the table demonstrations. Planning this event each year is very exciting, and we’re not ready to take a break! person sitting at table with different colors of fluids in flasksWe’re holding an interview and resume workshop with the help of the AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) club at UC Davis to help get our seniors and anyone interested prepared for applying to jobs and internships after graduation. Since the weather is starting to warm up we’re also going to continue our Spring quarter tradition of volunteering to garden at Central Park here in Davis. We also have plans to make our own ice cream to take a break from midterms and maybe even take a quick day trip to Tahoe to see some of the labs that deal with water quality.
